Boards, firmware, and the path off the desk.

I am an electrical engineer. For nearly seven years I have been writing firmware for Arduino, the ESP family, STM32 and GD32, and Raspberry Pi, and connecting those boards to RFID, GSM, Bluetooth, GPS, and displays.

How I take a job

Most of the work is product firmware: a device that has to provision itself, talk to a phone or a modem, and keep sending data when the network is ordinary and bad. I use C and C++ on the microcontroller, and Python when the job is a Raspberry Pi. Day to day that is Arduino, PlatformIO, or ESP-IDF, depending on whether the product needs a sketch or the IDF tooling.
